What should we definitely visit if we are only in Ghent for a few hours?

The most important sights in Ghent are St Bavo’s Cathedral, with the Adoration of the Mystic Lamb, and the Castle of the Counts, the Graslei and the Korenlei.


Is Ghent-Sint-Pieters Station far from the centre and how do I get from there to the centre?

The station is about 20 minutes’ walk from the centre. Every 5 minutes tram number 1 leaves the station for the centre.


Where can we go on a boat-trip?

You will find the various boat companies on Graslei, Korenlei, Groentenmarkt and Kraanlei.


Are there guided walks around the city which we can join?

From 1/5 to 31/10 there is a guided walk in the city that starts from the information office underneath the Belfry at 2.30 pm every day.


Which are the most important shopping streets in Ghent?

The most important shopping streets are Veldstraat, Zonnestraat, Brabantdam, Koestraat, Mageleinstraat, Donkersteeg and Lange Munt.

Do the museums have a closing day? And if so, which?

Yes, there is a ‘Museumpas’ for all the museums. It costs 20 euros and includes public transport.


Are the shops in Ghent open on Sundays?

No, they are closed on Sundays, although there are ‘shopping Sundays’ during the Christmas and New Year period.


Is there a combined ticket for all the museums?

Yes, the museums close on Mondays, except when it’s a holiday, and then they remain open.


Is there a mapped walk?

Yes, there is a mapped walk around the city that takes about 2 hours. The map is free from the information office underneath the belfry, or else you can download it here or view it interactively.
